WASHINGTON DC — The House Select Committee on China will hold a hearing titled “Deterrence Amid Rising Tensions: Preventing CCP Aggression on Taiwan." The hearing will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 9:00 A.M. in the Cannon House Office Building (Cannon Caucus Room 390).
The Select Committee will examine how to stop a CCP invasion of Taiwan before it starts. Xi Jinping has ordered the PLA to be ready to take Taiwan by force by 2027—putting America’s credibility, security, and economic interests on the line. This hearing will dig into how the U.S. and its allies can tip the balance of power in the region through hard power, tighter coordination with Taiwan, and a united front of military, economic, and diplomatic deterrence.
Witnesses will detail what the CCP is building, what Taiwan needs, and what actions this Congress must take now to prevent a war that would destabilize the Indo-Pacific and devastate global supply chains. The witnesses for the hearing will be:
General (Ret.) Charles Flynn, Former Commander, United States Army Pacific
Rear Admiral (Ret.) Mark Montgomery, Senior Director, Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation, Foundation for Defense of Democracies
The Honorable Kurt Campbell, 22nd United States Deputy Secretary of State
When: Thursday, May 15, 2025, 9:00 A.M.
Where: Cannon House Office Building, Room 390 (Cannon Caucus Room)
