In Memoriam: Shew Ching Huang (Sharon Huang)

March 11, 1952 – December 10, 2025

Shew Ching Huang, better known as Sharon Huang, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at the age of 73, after a 10 years bout with lung cancer. Born and raised in Taiwan, she moved to the United States in 1974 to pursue her graduate studies in statistics. A successful civic-minded businesswoman in real estate, a tireless advocate for Taiwan’s democracy, culture and arts, Sharon leaves behind a legacy that spans continents and generations.

During Taiwan’s political upheaval and transformation in the 1980s, she emerged as a passionate supporter in Taiwan’s democratic movement, human rights and the pursuit of justice.

Her activism was also deeply rooted in community, culture, and the belief that art could uplift body and soul for a better tomorrow. After making New York City her home she soon became a cornerstone of the Taiwanese American community, a constant presence from organizing community events, fundraising for causes or for candidates, to housing visiting Taiwanese artists. Her building in Brooklyn was often a gathering place for artists, students, and activists—a salon of ideas, laughter, and shared meals.

Beyond her public work, Sharon was a beloved friend, mentor, and elder. Her energy, generosity, and unshakable integrity touched all who knew her.

Sharon is survived by extended family in Taiwan and the United States, as well as by the countless individuals and communities she nurtured and inspired.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Central Funeral Home, 162-14 Sanford Ave, Flushing, New York 11358, with the following details:
